Officer injured, suspect killed in barricade at Massachusetts shopping plaza
A police officer was shot multiple times during a barricade incident at a Family Dollar store in Spencer, Massachusetts, according to officials. The suspect was shot and killed.
The incident occurred at a Family Dollar store in the Big Y Plaza along Route 9 in the town of Spencer, where police responded to reports of shots fired and a suspect barricading themselves inside the store.
Millbury police said one of their officers, who is also a member of a regional SWAT team, was shot multiple times during the response around 7:40 p.m. The officer was transported to a hospital and is in serious but stable condition. The officer was not identified.
The suspect was shot and killed during the incident, according to preliminary information. No details were released about the suspect’s identity.
An image from the scene showed multiple police vehicles positioned outside the Family Dollar at the plaza, with officers near the entrance.
Authorities have not said what led up to the incident or released further details on the sequence of events.
