15-year-old student kills 2 teachers in Mexico; posted videos before attack

A 15-year-old student shot and killed two teachers at a high school in western Mexico, according to officials. Hours earlier, he had posted videos showing what appeared to be the rifle used in the attack, along with clips tied to incel culture and hostility toward feminism.

The shooting happened Tuesday at the Makarenko preparatory school in Lazaro Cardenas, a port city in the Pacific coast state of Michoacan.

The Michoacan state prosecutor’s office said officers responding to reports of gunfire found two women dead inside the school and detained a teenage boy believed to be linked to the attack. Prosecutors said a 5.56-caliber rifle with a magazine was recovered at the scene.

According to Mexico’s OEM news outlet, the teenager arrived late to class and was denied entry before opening fire on the two women. Authorities did not release his name because he is a minor.

OEM reported that the two victims were school employees identified as Maria del Rosario, 36, and Tatiana, 37.

The teenager first posted an Instagram video showing himself with a 5.56-caliber rifle in front of a mirror. He then shared a photo of himself kneeling with the rifle pointed at his forehead. He was wearing the same black clothing when he was detained after the shooting.

The suspect also posted a black-and-white video referencing the incel subculture, short for involuntary celibate, an online misogynistic movement built around resentment toward women and feminism.

The video included images of women, charts and statistics about relationships between men and women, and ended with scenes from a school shooting in which the first victims were women.

In another post, the teenager shared a video showing serial killer Charles Manson dancing.

State investigators have not publicly commented on a possible motive, and the prosecutor’s office did not include details about the social media posts in its statement.
