2 deputies, utility worker and suspect shot during standoff in California
A utility worker, two deputies and a suspect were shot during a standoff at a home in El Dorado County, California, authorities said. The deputies were hospitalized in stable condition, while the suspect was flown to a regional hospital.
A PG&E crew reported at about 7:25 a.m. Thursday that they were shot at on Mountain View Drive in Camino, east of Sacramento, and that one employee was injured, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the residence and an officer-involved shooting later occurred at the scene.
CBS News, citing sheriff’s office spokesperson Jesse Dacanay, reported that SWAT was called to the home in an attempt to contact the suspect inside. After more than three hours of trying to reach him, the shooting occurred, wounding the two deputies and the suspect.
The sheriff’s office said both deputies were taken by ambulance to a hospital and are in stable condition. CBS reported that the wounded PG&E contract worker suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was flown by air ambulance to a regional hospital, where he is receiving treatment. His identity has not been released.
In an update issued around 7 p.m. local time, the department said there were no outstanding suspects and no known threat to public safety in the area.
