Fire at Tesla store in Sydney area destroys 3 vehicles; arson suspected
A fire damaged a Tesla store in the Sydney area and destroyed three vehicles, according to the company and police. Tesla Australia said arson is suspected.
The fire happened shortly after 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday on Church Street in Parramatta, a major suburb west of central Sydney, when officers and firefighters were called to the scene, according to New South Wales Police.
Police said three vehicles were destroyed and part of the building was damaged in the blaze.
“Tesla has confirmed this is not a vehicle or battery related fire,” Tesla Australia said in a statement. “Police are now investigating the arson attack on the building.”
Witness footage from the scene showed the large fire at the dealership, with the vehicles engulfed in flames.
A crime scene was established and an investigation is underway, police said. Authorities have not released information about a suspect or suspects.
