Chicago SWAT officer, woman shot during domestic violence incident

A Chicago police SWAT officer and a woman were shot during a domestic violence and hostage situation at a home in the city’s Albany Park neighborhood, according to local media.

The incident began at about 11:30 a.m. Monday at a home in the 4600 block of North Springfield Avenue. Police initially responded to a domestic violence situation, which later developed into a hostage situation, and a SWAT team was called to the scene.

During the SWAT response, a 45-year-old officer was shot once in the stomach, according to CBS News Chicago. He was able to walk into an ambulance and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he is undergoing surgery.

A woman involved in the incident was also shot and taken to the same hospital. Her condition is unknown. At least two others were injured, but details about their injuries or conditions have not been released.

The SWAT operation ended later Monday when officers led a man out of the home in handcuffs. His identity has not been released, and it is unclear whether he has been formally arrested or charged.
