Small plane crashes into Hudson River in New York
A small plane has crashed into the Hudson River in New York, according to preliminary information. The status of those on board is unknown.
The aircraft is a Cessna 172, a single-engine, four-seat plane commonly used for flight training and private travel, with registration number N1560E. It is registered to American Airman Inc, a flight school based on Long Island.
The plane had departed from Long Island MacArthur Airport. FlightRadar24 shows the plane’s last recorded position in the Hudson River between the cities of Newburgh and Beacon, roughly 60 miles north of New York City.
The area sits near New York Stewart International Airport, a commercial and military airport in Orange County.
The number of people on board, their condition, and the cause of the crash are not yet known. A search and rescue operation has been launched.
