5 injured, including 3 students, in downtown Iowa City shooting
Five people were injured in a shooting in downtown Iowa City, including three University of Iowa students, according to police and the university. One of the victims is in critical condition.
The shooting happened at 1:46 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of East College Street, where officers were responding to a report of a large fight, Iowa City police said. Arriving officers then heard gunfire.
Police said five victims were identified in the shooting. One victim is in critical condition while the other four are in stable condition. No additional information about the victims was immediately released.
“Our hearts are burdened today after three University of Iowa students were injured during a shooting in downtown Iowa City,” the University of Iowa said in a statement. “We are thinking of them, their families and friends, and Hawkeyes everywhere who are hurting today.”
Police said later Sunday that no arrests had been made, but released photos of five persons of interest sought in connection with the shooting. Authorities said there is no known ongoing threat.
