8 killed in shooting at illegal bar in central Mexico
Eight people were killed in a shooting inside an unlicensed bar in central Mexico, according to security officials. Local media said several other people were injured.
The shooting happened at about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday inside “El Rincón de la Banda,” a bar in the community of Anenecuilco in Morelos state, south of Mexico City, according to state authorities and local reports. The establishment did not have an operating license.
Authorities said preliminary evidence pointed to a possible gun fight between armed individuals inside the establishment, though investigators were still working to determine exactly what happened and who was responsible.
The dead included seven men and one woman. Local media reported that several other people were injured, but authorities have not released an official count.
La Nueva Familia Michoacana, which was designated a terrorist organization by the Trump administration, has a known presence in this area of Morelos. Other groups operating in the state include CJNG, the Sinaloa Cartel and local gangs, but authorities have not said whether the shooting was tied to any specific group.
