18-year-old woman dies after Oklahoma party shooting that injured more than 20
An 18-year-old woman has died after a shooting at a large, unsanctioned party in Edmond, Oklahoma, where more than 20 people were injured, according to police.
The shooting was reported just after 9 p.m. on Sunday near the Scissortail Campground at Arcadia Lake, a reservoir and recreation area in Edmond, north of Oklahoma City. Police said the party began after dark and was advertised on multiple social media platforms.
The gathering was not permitted or reserved, according to the Edmond Police Department. It drew a large crowd of young adults from across the metro area.
Officers were called to the lake after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire. When they arrived, they found numerous people with injuries, including gunshot wounds.
Police said about 23 people have been identified with injuries ranging in severity. Several were taken to area hospitals, while others sought treatment on their own.
On Tuesday, police confirmed an 18-year-old woman died from injuries sustained in the shooting. Her name was not immediately released.
Investigators have not released suspect information. Police said there is no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
