About 100 vehicles catch fire at Montana recycling yard

About 100 vehicles caught fire at an auto recycling yard near Missoula, Montana, according to local media. The fire was later brought under control and no injuries were reported.

The fire was reported just before 1 p.m. on Sunday at Axmen Auto/Recycling on Summit Lane near Wye, an unincorporated community northwest of Missoula, according to the Missoula Fire Department and KPAX.

A pile of cars ignited at the recycling yard, Axmen owner Guy Hanson told KPAX. Officials told NBC Montana that about 100 cars caught fire, and crews worked to move nearby vehicles to keep the fire from spreading. The cause was not immediately known.

The Missoula Fire Department said it responded as mutual aid alongside other agencies. The Missoula Rural Fire District said no injuries had been reported, according to KPAX.

The fire was under control by Sunday afternoon, but crews were still working hot spots as of 3:40 p.m. Officials said resources would remain at the scene through the night.
