Man critically injured after being set on fire in Australia
A 25-year-old man is in critical condition after he was set on fire by an unknown person at an apartment building in Australia, according to police. No arrests have been announced.
Emergency services were called at about 9 p.m. Monday to a unit block on Todd Street in Warrawong, a suburb south of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, after reports of a fire.
Officers from the Lake Illawarra Police District were told the man had been set alight by an unknown person before the suspect ran from the scene, according to NSW Police.
The man was treated by paramedics and residents for serious burn injuries before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in critical condition.
Local media reported that the victim had been doused in petrol before he was set on fire. Police have not released the man’s identity or said how the incident unfolded.
A crime scene has been established at the apartment building, and police said an investigation is ongoing. No possible motive has been released.
