1 killed, 5 injured in Kansas City shooting
One person was killed and five others were injured when multiple people opened fire near the 18th and Vine Jazz District in Kansas City, Missouri, according to police and local media.
The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday when officers were called to the area of 19th Street and Vine for reports of a possible shooting, according to WDAF, citing Kansas City police.
Officers found two women and one man unconscious at the scene. The man was pronounced dead, while the two women were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police identified the man who was killed as 29-year-old David E. Beck III.
Officers were later told that three other gunshot victims, two men and one woman, had arrived at a hospital on their own. The extent of their injuries was not immediately released.
Investigators believe the victims were standing along 19th Street between Paseo and Vine when multiple people began shooting in multiple directions, according to WDAF. Homicide detectives are talking to witnesses to determine what led up to the shooting. No arrests have been announced.
The shooting happened just blocks from the city’s annual Juneteenth celebration in the 18th and Vine Jazz District, The Kansas City Star reported.
The shooting happened about 7 miles from Arrowhead Stadium, where Ecuador and Curaçao are scheduled to play Saturday night as part of Kansas City’s World Cup schedule, NBC News reported.
