‘Daredevil’ actress Wai Ching Ho dead at 82
Actress Wai Ching Ho, best known for playing the crime boss Madame Gao in Marvel’s “Daredevil” and other Netflix series, has died after suffering a stroke . She was 82 years old.
Fellow actor Perry Yung announced her death on Sunday, saying Ho died peacefully after suffering a stroke two days earlier.
“Wai Ching was a kind, compassionate human being whose work as an artist lifted every production to a higher standard, and we are better for it,” Yung said. “Rest in power, dear friend.”
Born in Hong Kong, Ho built a career spanning theater, film and television. She became widely known for her role as Madame Gao, a mysterious and powerful crime boss who appeared in “Daredevil,” “Iron Fist” and the crossover miniseries “The Defenders.”
Ho also voiced Grandma Wu in Pixar’s “Turning Red” and appeared in films including “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” “Premium Rush,” “Tracers,” “Hustlers” and “High Resolution.”
Her television credits included “Law & Order,” “Blue Bloods,” “Elementary,” “Orange Is the New Black” and “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens.”
Actor Peter Shinkoda, who appeared with Ho in “Daredevil,” paid tribute to her in an Instagram post.
“I won’t ever forget you,” Shinkoda said. “I learned every minute from you when we were together on and off set. We will meet again, my friend. You were beautiful.”
