14 killed in Saudi oil company helicopter crash
A helicopter operated by Saudi Arabia’s state oil company crashed in the country’s east, killing all 14 people on board, according to officials.
The helicopter went down at about 6 a.m. Sunday in Ras Tanura, a Persian Gulf city that is home to major Saudi oil facilities, according to a statement from the Energy Ministry carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The aircraft belonged to Saudi Aramco, the state-controlled oil giant. A ministry official said all 14 people on board were killed and that all of the victims were Saudi citizens.
Officials did not immediately release where the helicopter had taken off from or where it was headed.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known. The Energy Ministry said an investigation is underway with other relevant authorities to determine what caused the helicopter to go down.
