15 taken to hospitals after Dallas bus falls into hole in street
A public transit bus fell into a hole in a Dallas street after a metal plate shifted, sending 15 people to hospitals for evaluation and treatment, according to fire officials and DART. All injuries are believed to be minor.
The incident was reported at 5:53 a.m. along the 6300 block of Harry Hines Boulevard, near Exchange Parkway, where a DART bus ended up in what Dallas Fire-Rescue described as “a hole” in the street.
Fire officials said a metal plate had somehow shifted, exposing the hole before the bus entered the area.
Dallas Fire-Rescue sent multiple units to the scene, including seven rescue units and an EMS supervisor, because several passengers and the driver needed to be evaluated by paramedics.
A total of 15 people were taken to local hospitals. Dallas Fire-Rescue said four patients were taken to Parkland, four to Baylor and seven to Dallas Methodist.
DART officials said the patients were taken for evaluation and treatment, and all injuries are believed to be minor, according to NBC Dallas-Forth Worth.
Dallas Fire-Rescue initially said six people, including the driver, declined transport. DART later said 18 people were on the bus at the time of the crash and that three people declined medical attention.
