5 stabbed at New York’s Penn Station; suspect arrested
Five people were injured in a stabbing at New York’s Penn Station, according to officials. A suspect was taken into custody.
The attack happened at about 7 p.m. on Sunday near West 33rd Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan, where emergency crews were called for reports of a person attacking multiple people at the transit hub.
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) said five civilians were injured. One of them suffered serious injuries, while two others were moderately injured and two had minor injuries. All five victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
Amtrak Police launched a search after the incident and a suspect was taken into custody, Amtrak said in a statement. Officials have not released details about the suspect.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said five people were “senselessly attacked at Penn Station in an act of horrific violence.”
“Our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones, and we are praying for their full recovery,” Hochul said. “Thank you to the law enforcement officers and first responders whose swift actions prevented further harm.”
The attack happened less than a day before President Donald Trump is expected to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, according to WNYW. The arena sits above Penn Station.
