9 injured in Kansas City shooting
Nine people were injured in a shooting in Kansas City, Missouri, after police responded to reports of gunfire and found a large crowd scattering from the area, according to police. No arrests have been announced.
The shooting happened just after 4 a.m. on Saturday near 79th Street and Troost Avenue, according to the Kansas City Police Department. Officers initially found three women who had been shot.
The three women were taken to hospitals and are expected to survive, police said.
Police later received additional reports of gunshot victims who had been taken to hospitals in private vehicles. Police eventually determined that nine adults had been struck in the shooting.
All nine victims are expected to survive. Police have not announced any arrests so far in connection with the shooting, and details about what led up to the gunfire have not been released.
The Athletic reported that the shooting happened several miles from Swope Soccer Village, where England’s national soccer team is expected to train during the 2026 World Cup.
Kansas City is one of the U.S. host cities for the 2026 World Cup, which will be played across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
