The body of a newborn was found in a portable restroom at the Electric Forest music festival in Michigan, according to state police.

The neonate was found Sunday morning in the festival’s camping area in Rothbury, a village in western Michigan, according to the Michigan State Police Sixth District.

The body was discovered by an employee of the portable restroom company during routine maintenance, police said.

Investigators have not released information about the baby’s identity, how long the body may have been there or the circumstances surrounding the death. No arrests have been announced.

State police said the investigation remains ongoing. Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area and saw anything unusual, or who has information that may be relevant, to contact Michigan State Police.

“Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you,” Electric Forest said in a statement. “Michigan State Police continues to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way. HQ is heartbroken and knows that our Forest Family is as well.”

Electric Forest is an annual electronic music festival. This year’s event began Thursday and ended Sunday, with more than 100 acts on the lineup, including Galantis, Chris Lake, Illenium, Kaskade, Bob Moses and Shaquille O’Neal performing as DJ Diesel.

Police asked the public to avoid speculation on social media “out of respect for the investigation and those affected.”
