DC firefighter seriously injured after being struck by ladder truck

A Washington, D.C., firefighter was seriously injured after being struck by a ladder truck while responding to a fire. The firefighter is currently in stable condition.

The incident happened at about 1:49 p.m. Thursday after firefighters were called to the unit block of Galveston Street in southwest Washington for a reported structure fire, according to the D.C. Fire and EMS Department.

While crews were at the scene, the firefighter was struck by the ladder truck and suffered serious injuries. Officials did not disclose how the collision happened or identify the injured firefighter.

The firefighter received medical treatment before being flown by helicopter to an area trauma center. The department said the firefighter is in stable condition following the helicopter transport.

D.C. Fire and EMS and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) are investigating the incident. No additional information about the structure fire or the investigation was immediately released.
