4 injured when helicopter crashes at South Florida airport

Four people were injured when a helicopter crashed while taking off from an airport in South Florida, according to local officials and federal investigators.

The crash happened Saturday morning at North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines, about 15 miles north of Miami. Police said officers were assisting at the scene after a helicopter crash was reported at the airport.

Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue told WTVJ that crews found the helicopter with moderate damage. The pilot and three passengers were already out of the aircraft when firefighters arrived.

All four people on board were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials said they were in stable condition.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the helicopter, a Robinson R44, crashed while it was departing from the airport.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known. The FAA will investigate.
