A tornado tore through a town in Russia’s Ural region, injuring at least 15 people and damaging nearly 100 homes, according to regional officials.
The tornado hit Kushva, a town in Sverdlovsk region, where local authorities declared a state of emergency after homes, a school and a kindergarten were damaged.
City officials said 97 homes were damaged, and a full assessment of the destruction was expected to continue after sunrise.
The regional ambulance service said 15 people sought medical help. One person was hospitalized, while the others were treated at the scene.
The tornado also affected basic services in the town, damaging water and gas infrastructure. Restoration work was underway, and gas was temporarily shut off in parts of the residential sector after damage was found to pipes.
A temporary shelter was opened for residents whose homes were damaged, and officials said drinking water and basic supplies were being delivered to affected areas.
