1 killed, 5 injured when vehicle crashes into cafe in Simi Valley, California
One person was killed and five others were injured when a Tesla crashed into a cafe at a busy shopping center in Southern California, authorities said.
The crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Target shopping center on Tierra Rejada Road in Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles, according to police.
KABC footage showed a white Tesla next to the Urbane Cafe. Aerial video from the scene showed the vehicle beside the cafe’s outdoor seating area, where tables and umbrellas had been knocked over.
The Ventura County Fire Department said one person was killed and five others suffered minor injuries. The ages and genders of those involved were not immediately released.
Simi Valley police said officers were investigating the fatal traffic collision and asked people to avoid the area while the investigation continued.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known, and officials did not say whether the driver was injured or taken into custody.
