Two people who climbed the spire of the Empire State Building in New York City have been arrested, and police released body camera footage showing officers reaching them high above Midtown Manhattan.

The pair were identified as Angela Nikolau and Ivan Kuznetsov, who appeared in the 2024 Netflix documentary “Skywalkers: A Love Story,” according to WABC. The film followed the couple’s climbs on rooftops and high-rise structures around the world.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon after the two climbed onto the Empire State Building’s spire.

Photos and video from the scene showed them standing on a platform high above the city, where they unfurled a banner reading, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”

Kuznetsov also appeared to propose marriage to Nikolau while on the spire.

Footage released by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch showed members of the department’s Emergency Service Unit climbing onto the spire and making contact with the pair.

“Hello, how you doing? Can you stay where you are?” one officer could be heard saying in the video. “You can’t be up here.”

“I’m okay,” the woman responded, before officers took both climbers safely into custody. WABC reported that Nikolau and Kuznetsov were charged by the NYPD.

Nikolau and Kuznetsov, who also goes by the stage name Ivan Beerkus, were described by Netflix as being based in Moscow, according to WABC.

Their Netflix documentary featured their climb of Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which is the world’s second-tallest building at 2,227 feet.
