7 inmates injured when Texas prison bus overturns
Seven inmates were injured when a Texas prison bus overturned in a one-vehicle crash, authorities said. All occupants were accounted for.
The crash happened Wednesday on State Highway 164 east of Groesbeck, near FM 3371, according to the Groesbeck Police Department. The city is in Limestone County, about 40 miles east of Waco.
The bus was carrying 26 inmates from several local county jails to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Gurney Unit in Palestine, KWTX reported.
Texas DPS confirmed to KWTX that seven inmates were injured. Groesbeck Police Chief Chris Henson said there were no fatalities.
Officials did not immediately release the conditions of the injured inmates or say whether anyone else on the bus, including correctional officers or the driver, weres injured.
Eastbound and westbound lanes of State Highway 164 were closed while first responders worked at the scene. Police later said the roadway had reopened. The cause of the crash has not been released.
