Shooting reported at sheriff’s office in northern Idaho; suspect neutralized
A shooting at a sheriff’s office in northern Idaho has left at least two people injured, according to local media reports. The suspect has been neutralized.
“The online reports of an active shooter at the Shoshone County Courthouse in Wallace, Idaho are accurate,” the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office in neighboring Montana said in a post on Friday afternoon. Authorities later corrected the post, saying the incident was taking place at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, which is located in front of the courthouse.
“We are sending reinforcement to help our neighbor,” the post said. “Please pray for all law enforcement.” Authorities urged the public to stay out of the downtown area of Wallace, which is the county seat of Shoshone County.
Initial reports indicated the suspect was barricaded inside the sheriff’s office facility, but KHQ later reported that the suspect had been neutralized, citing Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris.
Local outlet CDA Press reported that at least two people were shot and taken to hospitals, though their conditions were not known. The outlet said that the suspect is deceased.
Officials have not released details about the shooting, including information on possible victims.
