Shooting reported in Evergreen, Colorado; suspect dead, no known victims
A shooting was reported in Evergreen, Colorado, and the suspected gunman is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said. Deputies said there are no known victims at this time.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded Thursday to the 32000 block of Ellingwood Trail in Evergreen, a foothills community about 30 miles west of Denver.
The block includes Tuscany Tavern, an Italian restaurant, along with other nearby businesses, though authorities have not confirmed whether the shooting occurred inside any specific establishment.
“There are no known victims at this time,” the sheriff’s office said in an update, adding that deputies are still clearing the buildings in the area.
The sheriff’s office initially described the situation as an active shooter and later said the suspect was “down by a self-inflicted gun shot.”
The FBI’s Denver field office said it is aware of the situation and has personnel ready to assist the sheriff’s office if requested.
