Tornado-warned storm damages buildings west of Bloomington, Indiana
A tornado-warned storm caused damage to several commercial buildings west of Bloomington, Indiana, according to local reports. No injuries have been officially reported.
The storm moved through the area near Third Street and Interstate 69 on Thursday evening, where a Fifth Third Bank sustained the majority of the damage, WISH-TV reported. Power was knocked out to several nearby buildings and power lines were brought down.
Images shared by WISH-TV showed roof damage to multiple commercial buildings in the area, with sections peeled back and debris scattered across parking lots. In some photos, parts of roof structures appeared collapsed, exposing wooden framing and insulation.
Earlier, the National Weather Service (NWS) had issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) tornado warning for Bloomington and surrounding communities, including Clear Creek, Ellettsville and Trevlac. The warning was later downgraded before the storm reached the city.
The NWS Storm Prediction Center had outlined a severe weather risk across parts of the Midwest and Ohio Valley earlier Thursday, warning that storms capable of producing up to EF2 tornadoes could develop throughout the afternoon and evening.
No injuries have been reported so far. Authorities are still assessing the damage in the area.
