5 dead in possible murder-suicide in north Texas
Five people died in a possible murder-suicide at a home in Plainview, Texas, according to officials. All victims have been identified.
The Hale County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Texas Rangers at about 3:40 a.m. Saturday to assist with a death investigation at a residence in the 2700 block of Upchurch Street in the Seth Ward neighborhood near Plainview, a city in the Texas Panhandle, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in an update released Monday.
Four adults were pronounced dead at the scene and identified as Hector Alonso Sanchez, 28, Tanya Paola Valadez Rangel, 30, Rosalba Saenz Rodriguez, 47, and Saul Villa, 33.
DPS said Villa was later identified as the shooter. A fifth victim, 21-year-old Reily Joseph Zavala Barrientos, was injured in the shooting and later died at Covenant Hospital-Plainview.
The Texas Rangers are continuing to investigate the shooting and its cause, DPS said. Officials have not publicly confirmed a motive or the relationships among those involved.
According to preliminary information, investigators are examining whether the shooting may have been a murder-suicide involving family members and possibly an acquaintance. Authorities have not confirmed that account.
