Patrick Mahomes Sr. jailed in Texas after alleged probation violation
Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has been jailed in East Texas after allegedly violating the terms of his probation in a DWI case, according to local media.
KLTV reported that Mahomes Sr., 55, is being held at the Smith County Jail in East Texas, near the city of Tyler, after prosecutors alleged he consumed alcohol, which would violate the conditions of his probation stemming from a 2024 DWI conviction.
Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty in 2024 and received a five-year probation sentence, Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman said, according to KLTV. Putman said Mahomes Sr. has the right to a hearing to contest the alleged violation.
Mahomes Sr. is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for six teams over an 11-season career, most recently appearing with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2003, according to CBS Sports.
CBS Sports reported that Mahomes Sr. previously faced a third-degree felony charge that carried a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, but the case was resolved with a guilty plea and probation.
Mahomes Sr. is the father of Patrick Mahomes, a two-time NFL Most Valuable Player and three-time Super Bowl champion who has been one of the league’s most prominent figures since becoming the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018.
No additional details were released on the alleged probation violation or how long Mahomes Sr. is expected to remain in custody.
