1 dead, 1 injured in shooting at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico
One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting at Holloman Air Force Base in southern New Mexico, according to officials and local media. The status of the suspect is unknown.
The shooting happened Tuesday evening at the Holloman Air Force Base, which was placed on lockdown at about 5:30 p.m. after reports of an active shooter, KFOX reported. The lockdown was lifted a short time later after the area was deemed safe.
Officials later said one person was dead and another had been taken for treatment, according to KFOX. It was not immediately clear whether the dead or injured person was the suspected shooter, or whether anyone was in custody.
It was also not immediately clear whether the two people shot were service members, civilian employees or other people on the installation. The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known.
Holloman Air Force Base is a USAF installation in southern New Mexico near Alamogordo. It is home to the 49th Wing and supports fighter pilot training and other air operations.
