Trump’s signature to appear on future U.S. dollar bills
President Donald Trump’s signature will appear on future U.S. dollar bills, according to the Treasury Department. It would be the first time a sitting president’s signature appears on U.S. currency.
“In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump’s signature will appear on future U.S. paper currency along with the Secretary of the Treasury, marking the first time in history for a sitting president,” Treasury said in a press release on Thursday.
U.S. paper currency has long carried the signatures of Treasury officials, not the president. Modern Federal Reserve notes typically bear the signatures of the Treasury secretary and the U.S. treasurer.
Treasury said the new notes would make Trump the first sitting president to have his signature printed on U.S. paper money. The department did not say when the new bills would begin entering circulation.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance, and fiscal strength and stability,” Bessent said in the announcement. “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S dollar bills bearing his name.”
Treasury presented the change as a one-time historical marker tied to the country’s 250th anniversary.
