American boy injured in shark attack in the Bahamas
A 12-year-old American boy was injured in a shark attack while swimming with his brother during a tour in the Bahamas, police said. He was taken for treatment and was last listed in stable condition.
The attack happened Tuesday afternoon in the area of Staniel Cay, part of the Exuma Cays, a chain of islands and small cays southeast of Nassau known for boating, beaches and water excursions.
Police in New Providence said they were notified shortly before 3:30 p.m. that the boy was being transported by boat after the attack.
According to the Bahamas Police Force, the boy’s mother said he and his brother were swimming during a tour in the Exuma Cays when a shark attacked him.
The boy received medical treatment and was last listed in stable condition. Police have not released his name or the extent of his injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
