Massive fire burns through commercial building in eastern Pennsylvania
A massive fire burned through an old commercial building in Allentown, Pennsylvania, forcing nearby residents to evacuate as the roof collapsed and flames spread to a home across the street, according to officials and media reports. No injuries have been reported.
The six-alarm fire was reported at about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday in Allentown, a city in eastern Pennsylvania about 60 miles north of Philadelphia. Lehigh County Dispatch said all three floors of the commercial building were on fire.
The building sustained extensive damage as crews worked to contain the blaze. The roof collapsed while the fire continued to burn, and power company PPL shut off electricity in the area.
Officials asked residents on the 300 block of Front Street to leave their homes through their backyards. Other people in the area were told to shelter in place.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
