2 people exchanged gunfire in Seattle Center shooting that killed 3
Seattle officials say two people exchanged gunfire outside the Seattle Center Armory in Sunday’s mass shooting, killing three people and injuring at least four others. A 15-year-old is in custody, but the other shooter has not been identified and may be among those killed.
The shooting happened shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday as officers assigned to support Bite of Seattle heard gunfire and responded within seconds. The teenager was taken into custody at the scene.
Officials believe the teen opened fire in a crowd during an exchange of gunfire with another suspect, leaving seven people caught in the crossfire. Police are investigating a possible eighth victim.
A 19-year-old man and a 44-year-old man died at the scene, while a 56-year-old woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition and later died. Their names have not been released.
A 40-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries but declined transportation to a hospital. A 39-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were taken to Harborview in stable condition and have since been released.
A 2-year-old boy remains at Harborview in satisfactory condition. A 27-year-old man who later arrived at UW Medical Center-Montlake with a gunshot wound was treated and released, but police have not determined whether he was also wounded in the shooting.
The teenager was booked into the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center for investigation of firearms violations and first-degree assault. Officials said no one has been formally arrested on suspicion of homicide.
Police initially received information that a possible second suspect had run toward the IMAX theater, leading SWAT officers to search the area. No one was found, but investigators still believe a second person exchanged gunfire with the teenager.
Officials said it is possible that the second shooter was among those killed, but that has not been determined. Police have asked anyone who witnessed the shooting or recorded video to contact investigators.
