Modern Solutions for Safer Fields and Facilities

Fields and facilities are areas where sports teams, professionals, amateurs, and even regular people wanting to enjoy the sport they love frequent. Because of this, they need to be safe and secure for all those who visit. Here are a few modern solutions to ensure that happens.

Clear Turf/Field Markings

While this may sound simple, the correct use of marking paint is critical when it comes to keeping those on the field/s safe. For instance, many fields are well-maintained, but the border around them often isn’t.

Because of this, there is an injury risk that players leave the maintained part of the field and enter an area that could have holes, rocks, etc. Clear field markings will ensure everyone knows where the border is, and to be more careful if they cross it.

Well-Kept, Even Surface

Another major aspect of field safety is maintenance. A well-maintained field ensures people can grip it, run without worrying about divots, rocks, etc, and simply not have to worry about where they are putting their feet.

Additionally, ensure the surface is even. A well-maintained field needs to include having a flat surface, as even large dents that aren’t that deep can cause people to trip and injure themselves.

Weather Resistance/Drainage

Finally, another crucial part of field maintenance is to have proper weather-resistant features and drainage. The latter is critical in areas that receive a lot of rain, mainly if the field is used often.

Running can cause lasting damage to a surface if it doesn’t have correct drainage, let alone what can happen if people are sliding, tackling, etc.

Facility Privacy

One major part of facility safety is privacy, especially in changing rooms and bathrooms. There are many aspects that go into this, but some of the most important ones to focus on are lines of sight, and the placement of mirrors.

Line of sight means you ensure that changing rooms and bathrooms cannot be seen into except by people who are in them. Mirror placement is important for a similar reason, as mirror reflections can expose people inside the changing rooms to the outside world.

Smart Security Cameras

Smart security cameras are vital for several reasons. First off, it will ensure that those within the facility and on the fields remain safe, whether that be something small like seeing who committed a theft, to something bigger like quickly spotting if someone has injured themselves.

Additionally, security cameras can help prevent the facilities and fields from being vandalized or misused. This can be a common problem, especially if people know how to get into the grounds, whether there are security guards or not, etc. Additionally, having alarms connected to the cameras will allow for swift communication to the emergency services.

Improved Lighting

Lighting is essential within a facility, but proper field lighting is also a must, especially if the fields are used at night. Not only will it help those using the field during their practice or game, but it is also important for safety.

A poorly lit field can lead to people not seeing divots, rocks, and other injury-causing dangers. Additionally, proper lighting is needed to stop potential criminal activity such as car theft.

Access Control

Access control is a must when it comes to stopping unauthorized entry into a facility. In simple terms, when you are able to keep track of who can and can’t come into the facility and grounds, and when they arrive and leave, you add several layers of safety for those using the facility.

For instance, if there is a crime committed, you are able to know exactly who was on the grounds at the time, and therefore the investigation can be sped up. When combined with secure gates and doors, you are able to keep any unwanted people away.

Heat & Shade Management

One aspect that is often overlooked is that of heat and shade management, especially in areas that have exceptionally hot Summers. For heat management, it is important to have misters and a robust plumbing system in the field to ensure there are multiple water fountains and bottle refill stations.

While it is difficult and expensive to cover an entire field with shading, it is important to have multiple shaded areas off to the side of the field/s, in particular over any seating areas or stands that may be there.

Emergency Communication System

For larger facilities and fields where sports take place, it is important to have an emergency communication system. You never know if there will be a fire, a flood, or a serious injury, and the last thing you want is to spend multiple minutes trying to find or get to your phone.

Instead, an emergency communication system can be used to send out mass evacuation texts, contact emergency services, set off fire alarms, etc.

In conclusion, these are only a few of the best modern solutions for facility and field safety; however, they are arguably some of the most important. The safety of the people in the facilities and on the field should be a top priority, and these solutions help to achieve that.
