A suspicious package believed to contain an explosive device was found at a suburban Cleveland office complex that houses Homeland Security and ICE offices, leading to evacuations, according to officials and local media.

The incident happened Monday at 925 Keynote Circle in Brooklyn Heights, Ohio, where the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Columbus said personnel were responding to a hazardous device incident.

Sources told WJW that the package was found inside a building after a law enforcement K-9 alerted investigators to a box believed to contain an explosive. Brooklyn Heights Fire Chief Mike Lasky told the station that the package was discovered during a routine inspection.

Nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution while authorities secured the scene, according to WJW.

The FBI has taken over the investigation, according to ATF Columbus, which said any additional information about the device or the ongoing investigation would be released by the FBI.

The building houses Cleveland’s Homeland Security office, according to WJW. Fox News reported that the office complex includes a satellite location for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the agency’s Detroit Field Office, along with other government operations, including legal and bond acceptance offices.

It was not immediately clear whether those offices were affected by the evacuations.

No further details were immediately released about the device, including who may have left it there or whether any arrests have been made.
