Montana man charged with threatening Hawaii governor and his family

A Montana man has been charged with threatening to kill Hawaii Governor Josh Green and his family in a series of antisemitic voicemails left with the governor’s office, according to federal prosecutors.

Eric Lee Boltz, 51, was charged by criminal complaint on last week with sending interstate communications containing threats and cyberstalking, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Hawaii. He was arrested and appeared in federal court in Montana on Wednesday.

According to court records, Boltz left a series of threatening voicemails with Green’s office in December 2025. Prosecutors said he disguised his voice while threatening to kill the governor and his family and to sexually assault his daughter.

When interviewed by law enforcement, Boltz said he left the voicemails to “shake [Governor Green] up,” according to prosecutors.

Boltz was ordered detained in Montana while he awaits transportation to Hawaii. If convicted, he faces up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each count. The FBI is investigating the case.
