Wife of Chiefs coordinator Eric Bieniemy shot by son in Virginia

The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was seriously injured after she was allegedly shot by the couple’s son at their home in Virginia, according to officials and ESPN. The son has been arrested.

Deputies responded to the home in the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn at about 7:32 p.m. Sunday and found a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

ESPN identified the victim as Mia Bieniemy and reported that she was shot in the chest and arm.

Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, of Ashburn, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. He was being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

“Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “She’s a saint—we all know that, the people who know her. One of God’s good blessings right there, a really special person.”

The shooting remains under investigation.
