One person was killed and three others were injured in a stabbing on a charter bus parked at a Walmart in Bessemer, Alabama, according to officials.

The incident happened at about 1:13 p.m. at the Walmart on Academy Drive in Bessemer, a city southwest of Birmingham, where police officers and fire personnel responded to reports of a disturbance on the bus.

Bessemer police said four people were stabbed during the altercation. One was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham with critical injuries and later died, while the others received medical treatment. Their conditions were not immediately released.

Police said the stabbing stemmed from an altercation involving people on the bus, which was carrying Fess Security Inc. security guards from New Orleans, according to WBMA. The bus was returning from an event in Tennessee and had stopped in Bessemer for a break.

A suspect was taken into custody. Police did not immediately identify the suspect or the victims.

Investigators said the stabbing appeared to be an isolated incident involving people on the bus, and there was no active threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing.
