7 people shot overnight in Trenton, New Jersey
At least seven people were shot in Trenton, New Jersey, after multiple gunmen opened fire late Tuesday night, striking several vehicles and a home, according to police. One of the victims is in critical but stable condition.
The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. when police received a ShotSpotter alert for multiple rounds in the area of Centre and Federal streets, according to the Trenton Police Department. Officers arrived and found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police said the victims included a teenage boy, a teenage girl and five men, ages 22, 24, 29, 30 and 36. All seven were taken to Capital Health Medical Center.
Six of the victims were listed in stable condition, while the seventh was listed in critical but stable condition. Police did not release their identities.
The crime scene extended several blocks, from Centre and Furman streets to Centre Street and Hills Place. Police said four unoccupied vehicles and an unoccupied home were also hit by gunfire.
Investigators said the initial evidence indicates that multiple shooters were involved. More than 50 spent shell casings were recovered from the scene.
No arrests have been announced and the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known. The Mercer County Shooting Response Team is investigating.
