The incident happened at about 3:20 p.m. local time on Tuesday when the suspect, a 48-year-old man named Qiu, attacked people with a knife in Longyan, a city in eastern China’s Fujian Province.
He then hijacked a bus and used it to run over pedestrians, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency. The man was taken into custody a short time later.
At least 8 people were killed and 22 others were injured, according to Xinhua. It said the suspect had a long-running conflict with an official of the neighborhood committee.
