The social networking website Twitter briefly went down on early Monday morning and appeared to be inaccessible to users around the world. Details about the cause of the outage were not immediately known. (more)

The service went down at about 12:45 a.m. ET on Monday when Twitter's website, app and Tweetdeck service suddenly dropped offline. "This site can’t be reached. twitter.com took too long to respond," a browser message said.
Users in Europe, Asia and the United States all reported that they could not reach the website, indicating the the issue was affecting users around the world. Twitter came back online at about 1:15 a.m. ET.
The cause of Monday's outage was not immediately known and a spokesperson for Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comments. The company's Status page was also not updated during the outage.
Twitter, which has about 313 million active users around the world, frequently suffered technical problems in its early days but the service hasn't experienced a major outage in years.
