Police and other emergency services in Texas on Thursday morning responded to reports of an active shooter at Alpine High School in Brewster County, officials say. One victim has been located and a search is underway for two suspects. (more)
The incident began on early Thursday morning when police received reports of shots being fired inside Alpine High School. A large number of officers rushed to the scene, after which one gunshot victim was located. There was no immediate word on his or her condition.
The Alpine Independent School District reports that Alpine High School has been placed on a "critical lockdown", but photos from the scene showed that a number of students were being evacuated from the building. There no longer appears to be an active shooter situation.
The Brewster County Sheriff's Office said two suspects are being sought in connection with the shooting, but other details about the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available. Other schools in the district are also on lockdown as a precaution.
