Dow Jones Industrial Average closes down 350 points, biggest drop since June 2013

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 350.33 points (-1.95%) to 17,596.35 as worries over the Greek financial crisis worsened. The S&P 500 dropped 43.85 points, a decline of 2.09 percent, to 2,057.64.

              The Labor Department said on Thursday the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week due to some loss of momentum in the labor market amid a sharp economic slowdown and stock market sell-off. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 8,000 to a seasonally adjusted 285,000 for the week ending January 30th.

              US stock markets suffered big losses on Friday, with the Dow Jones industrial average dropping 467 point in early afternoon trading, reaching its lowest level since September 2014.
