 2 yrs   New York prison escapee David Sweat discharged from hospital, taken to maximum-security facility

              David Sweat, whose escape from a New York prison last month led to a massive manhunt, has been discharged from Albany Medical Center and has been transferred to the maximum-security Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus, the state's department of corrections says. He will be medically evaluated at the prison's infirmary for 24 hours before being placed in a single cell, where he will remain on an active suicide watch with 23-hour confinement. Sweat had initially been in a critical condition after being shot by police, but his condition quickly improved. [statement attached]

              The condition of David Sweat, whose escape from a New York prison earlier this month led to a massive manhunt, has been upgraded from serious to fair.               Three officials and nine security staff employees have been placed on leave as part of the ongoing investigation into the escape of two convicted murderers from the Clinton Correctional facility in New York, the state's department of corrections says in a statement.               The condition of David Sweat, whose escape from a New York prison earlier this month led to a massive manhunt, has been upgraded from critical to serious, according to Albany Medical Center. Meanwhile, CNN cites a source close to the investigation as saying that Sweat told authorities that he and fellow inmate Richard Matt had planned to flee to Mexico.
