Two bomb explosions have hit the popular Al-Nakheel Mall on Falastin Street (Palestine Street) in eastern Baghdad, killing at least 11 people and injuring dozens more, witnesses and officials say. The Islamic State group (ISIS) has claimed responsibility.
The explosions - one believed to have been caused by a car bomb in the mall's parking garage and the second by a suicide bomber at the mall's entrance - happened just before midnight on Friday. Scores of people were at the mall.
Photos and video from the scene showed cars burning inside the parking garage at the Al-Nakheel Mall, and thick clouds of black smoke were seen billowing from the mall. The suicide bombing is believed to have followed the car bombing.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing casualties, but specific figures were not immediately available. A police official in the capital said at least 11 people had been killed and 30 others have been injured, but added that the figures are likely to increase.
The Islamic State group (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack.
