Kala Brown, a 30-year-old South Carolina woman who disappeared along with her boyfriend more than 2 months ago, has been found alive in a container in Spartanburg County. A registered sex offender - Todd Kohlhepp - has been arrested.
Kala Brown, 30, and Charlie Carver, 32, disappeared from the city of Anderson on August 30. Their families became concerned when they were unable to reach either of them by phone and calls went straight to voicemail.
Deepening the mystery, messages were posted on Carver's Facebook account, claiming the couple was fine and had left voluntarily. The posts raised more questions for the family because Carver did not typically post to his Facebook account and a photo that was posted was months old.
On Thursday morning, Kala was found in Spartanburg County after someone heard her banging inside a 30 by 15 feet container, where she was "chained up like a dog", according to the sheriff. The woman is believed to have been held inside the container for more than 2 months, but Carver was not found with her and remains missing.
Brown told investigators that four more people may be on the property, which is owned by her boss, Todd Kohlhepp, who is also a registered sex offender. Officers are now searching the property for bodies, raising fears that the suspect could be a serial killer.
According to local media, Kohlhepp is a real estate agent who employed Brown to clean houses and clear properties before they were offered for sale or rent. Other details about the case were not immediately available.
Brown was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
