The abduction occurred at about 2 p.m. on Friday when the children were taken from Birchland Elementary School in Port Coquitlam. Specific details about the circumstances of the abduction have not been released.

"It is believed that April and the children are possibly in the Lower Mainland of BC or heading towards the Fraser Valley, and there is now reasonable concern for the safety of the children," RCMP said in a statement. "Anyone who may have seen April, Sophia, Mateo or their vehicle is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately."

April Pastor is described as a 36-year-old white female with brown hair and blue eyes, standing 6 feet tall and weighing about 181 pounds. She was last seen wearing a possibly green nylon ski jacket and jeans, according to the amber alert.

Mateo is described as an 8-year-old white male with brown hair and blue eyes, standing 5 feet tall and weighing 85 pounds. Sofia is described as a 9-year-old white female with brown hair and blue eyes. She is 5 feet tall and weighs 90 pounds.

Police believe the mother and the children are traveling in a black 4-door Ford Focus hatchback. It is a newer model but the license plate number is unknown.

If you see either the suspect or the children, or if you have any other information that could help investigators, police urge you to contact them immediately.
