              Japanese woman Nabi Tajima, who is the last surviving person to be born in the 19th century, has become the 5th oldest person in recorded human history, experts said on Saturday as she reached 117 years and 190 days.

              Japanese broadcaster NHK mistakenly issued a warning Tuesday that told people to seek shelter, claiming that North Korea was believed to have launched a missile. The alert was retracted a short time later.

              Over 80 years ago, Amelia Earhart disappeared on her journey to become the first female pilot to circumnavigate the world. A photo recently unearthed by the History Channel could rewrite history. Taken in 1937 on the Marshall Islands controlled by Japan, the photograph depicts two Caucasians surrounded by locals. Earhart and her navigator may have been taken in as prisoners and died on the island. According to reports, some natives and school children even claim they saw the plane crash.

              A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 has struck just off the coast of northeast Japan, just two days after a powerful earthquake. There were no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami alert was issued.
