BNO News is a news organization that provides live coverage of breaking and developing stories, with impartiality, responsibility and fairness at its core values. We strive to provide fast, accurate and unbiased reporting with access to official information, allowing our readers to personally assess the stories they care about.
BNO News is privately owned with no ties to governments, activist groups, businesses, or any other organization that could affect its editorial independence.
BNO News traces its roots back to May 2007, when it launched a social media presence that had more than 1.5 million subscribers when it was acquired by MSNBC in December 2009. As one of the first to provide a real-time news service on Twitter, it quickly became one of the most-followed Twitter accounts. Today the account is part of NBC News. It was followed by the launch of a subscription news wire service in January 2010, with MSNBC being its first client for use in their newsrooms.
Since early 2010, BNO News has quickly developed an editorial staff in the Netherlands, the United States, Mexico, and other countries. Having an outstanding record of breaking stories early, releasing an unpublished Osama bin Laden videotape in 2007, reporting the devastating 2011 earthquake off Japan even before shaking had stopped, and reporting the 2014 disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 before major news agencies, BNO News is now used by newsrooms at newspapers, television stations, radio stations, and other media around the world.
In June 2015, the company launched BNONews.com, featuring text and video content, and re-established its social media presence, marking the first time since December 2009 that BNO News is fully available to the public. As of March 2016, BNO News reaches more than 7 million people monthly.
